Coen the Artist

I think Coen's drawings for his spelling words are great!

Coen's Mad Lib

Coen wrote this mad lib all on his own:
"After school this year, my friends and I decided we should start a big band. I play the guitar, Vann plays the trumpet, and Coen plays the drums! We named ourselves the Kill Band, and we practiced 1,000,000 times a week, even on the weekends. By 100, we were really good, so we asked if we could play the school dance. Mr. Poop-and-Pee, the school principal, said yes! He even paid us 1,000,00 dollars. We were the best part of the wholedance!

Hilarious siblings

They think each other are hilarious.

Hallie: knock knock
Coen: who's there?
Hallie: poop.
-laughter-

Mover!

Franklin (@ 6 months) is now a forward mover. He gets up on his hands and knees and rocks then lunges forward and repeats. Nothing is safe!

Pictured: Franklin reaches the holy grail of Halina's book stash while she naps.

Burning Birthday

I, being a super birthday mom, don't have a gift for Halina to open today, her birthday. We will open presents Saturday at her party, as they all go together.

I decided to put candles in her French toast and we sang Happy Birthday to her. But when she leaned in (way, way in) to blow out the candles, her wispy front hairs caught on fire and burned to a crisp. It's unnoticeable and she was more concerned with Coen blowing out the remaining candles so she could eat.

Happy birthday, Halina June!

Family in town

We are so blessed and fortunate to have my aunt and uncle close to us. The kids like to go over to play and Justin and I enjoy their company!

It's always a good time for Jenga!

Bday book

I made a book for Hallie about her adoption when she was 3 months old. She hasn't shown too much interest until recently. Now she likes to read the book and point out herself in her birth mom's belly and as a newborn. She will be three years old already so soon!

Afternoon Reading Session

In the afternoons, Coen sets up our couch like this and it's snuggle-reading time. I'm going to miss these hours once first grade rolls around!

St. George in Winter

We had a low-key vacation with Justin's parents and sister after Christmas Eve and Day. I had to play for both church services, so it was a little hectic.

We escaped to a rental home townhome in St. George. It was beautiful! A panoramic view over a golf course out the living room window, a gorgeous master suite (which Justin and Franklin and I graciously got), and time to watch the Packers and check out snowy, icy Zion National Park. It made us very excited to return and camp and hike this summer!

Moab Weekend!

We spent a weekend in Moab as a family in early February. It was a gift from a generous school family.

It was so relaxing and fun. We all went to bed early, took our time doing whatever we wanted, and the room had a huge jacuzzi tub. (Hallie: "This is my swimming pool?"

Coen was a master hiker and Halina did WAY better than we expected. I forgot to take the hiking backpack for her, so we thought we'd have to shorten our hikes. However, she kept on walking and climbing and jumping and was only carried for short stretches.

We hiked Aztec Butte in Canyonlands Natnl Park, and we did Park Ave. and Balanced Rock in Arches Natnl Park, and we closed out the weekend with the Corona Arch hike just outside Moab.

Photos to follow!

Six months!

Franklin has two teeth and is rocking back-and-forth on his hands and knees. Yesterday he even vaulted forward a few times.

He likes laughing at Coen and is still a bit wary of Halina. She likes to hug him and push him over with her face :) But they all love to smile and laugh at each other.

Franklin also started eating via the Baby Led Weaning method. He gets slices of food to hold and mush and chew on. So far he has tried (and approved of) pears, egg yolk, chicken, and sweet potato.

Sweet Coen

Today while Coen was napping he set up a gift table with a candy dish he made, a Jolly Rancher, and a picture he drew, all for Halina. He is so sweet.

Our little gymnast

Halina continues to enjoy gymnastics. She is getting very good and her next session will be in the 3's class since she will be a year older! I think I'll still help her with those classes, but she's doing more and more independently. (In gymnastics and at home; she put her pajamas on all by herself the other night!)

We enjoyed a free family pack of University of Utah gymnastics tickets. They are an incredible team and the leader in the franchise for quite some time. It was very fun and entertaining. Hallie kept saying, "I want to do that. I want to do that."

Chilly Zoo

My new friend and I took our kids to the free zoo day. In January. It was chilly!! But the animals were pretty active since it was the morning. I forgot to get a photo of Franklin and Halina and me, but here are a couple of Hallie and animals.

Teeth!

Franklin popped two bottom teeth through in the middle of a nasty head cold. So it was a miserable couple of weeks, but now he's back to his happy self!

He is also sitting up by himself and getting in the crawling position. I can't believe how quickly time is going. And Halina turns 3 next month! 😳
